The Eternal Family

Opening Song: I Am A Child of God
Scripture: Psalms 82:6
Closing Song: Families Can be Together Forever
Activity: Make a paper chain out of paper showing how we are all linked together as a family.

Did you know that we have always been apart of a family? Before we came to this earth, we lived in the premortal existence.. Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother created our spirits and we lived with them and our spiritual brothers and sisters.

"IN THE PREMORTAL REALM, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshipped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize their divine destiny as heirs of eternal life. The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave." - The Family: A Proclamation to the World

You are a child of God! We are all his children and because he loves us so much, he wants us to become like he is.

Our heavenly parents presented the Plan. We would come to earth to gain a body, have our own families and return to Heavenly Father's presence if we followed his commandments. He wanted us to have our own eternal families.

President Henry B. Eyring said:

"Before we were born, we lived in a family with our exalted and eternal Heavenly Father. He ordained a plan that enables us to advance and progress to become like Him. He did it out of love for us. The purpose of the plan was to allow us the privilege of living forever as our Heavenly Father lives. This gospel plan offered us a life of mortality in which we would be tested. A promise was given that through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, if we obeyed the laws and priesthood ordinances of the gospel, we would have eternal life, the greatest of all His gifts. (April 2016 general conference priesthood session).

Heavenly Father and his Son, Jesus Christ created earth for us to live on. They created the sun, stars, and moon. They put plants and animals on the earth. This was called the Creation.

Heavenly Father then created the first man and woman on the Earth. Do you know what their names are?

Adam and Eve!

Adam and Eve were married and became the first husband and wife on the earth! We will learn more about how they began their family in another lesson.

We started out as a family in the premortal world. We come to earth and have families, and we can be an eternal family or a forever family in heaven. Heavenly Father's plan is all about families.

I know that our Heavenly Parents love us. I know that we families are central to the plan of happiness and I know that families can be together forever. I say this this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
